Dr. Kristy Brugar is an assistant professor, specializing in social studies education, at the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary and secondary social studies education. Brugar’s research focuses on social studies and history education, interdisciplinary instruction involving social studies, literacy, and visual materials, and teacher development. Her work has been published in Theory and Research in Social Education, Social Studies Research and Practice, The History Teacher, and Middle Level Learning. In addition, Brugar has worked with several non-profit organizations in curriculum development and providing professional development to K-12 teachers. She is a former middle school social studies teacher at schools in Maryland and Michigan.
