Charles R. Coble is Co-founder & Partner of the Third Mile Group and Teacher Preparation Analytics and co-director of the Science and Mathematics Teacher Imperative a national initiative of the Association for Public and Land-grant Universities. Dr. Coble is also professor-emeritus of Science Education at East Carolina University and was, for 13 years, Dean of the ECU School of Education. He was, for 6 years, Vice-President of the 17-campus University of North Carolina and in that capacity led in the creation and construction of the UNC Center for School Leadership Development. Dr. Coble served as Vice President for Policy Studies and Programs at the Education Commission of the States in Denver, Colorado for 3 years. Over his career, Coble has directed over $12M in grants and contracts and is the author or co-author of 10 books and over 80 published articles. Dr. Coble holds an AA in Science degree from Mars Hill College and a Bachelor’s degree in Botany, a Master’s degree in Science Education, and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, all from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has maintained, since 1964, an active North Carolina secondary science teaching license.
