Shelli Fowler is Senior Director for Networked Pedagogies & Professional Development in Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) at Virginia Tech. She directs both the university-wide faculty development program, called NLI (Networked Learning Initiatives), as well as GEDI (the Graduate Education Development Institute), a program for future faculty. Her focus in both programs is on exploring how best to align our pedagogical praxis (across all disciplines) in ways that can increase students’ self-efficacy and sense of agency as active and engaged learners. In addition to working with faculty in the NLI short courses she has designed, Shelli teaches a multidisciplinary graduate seminar (GRAD 5114, Contemporary Pedagogy) each semester. She is an associate professor in English and serves as a Senior Fellow in the Honors Residential College. Her research and scholarship focuses on critical pedagogy, African American literature, diversity in higher education, and the integration of teaching, learning, and technologies. Shelli earned her doctorate from The University of Texas at Austin.
