John Heffernan is originally from Ireland but is currently a Learning Technologist Integrator for Albemarle County Public Schools in VA. After four years working in IT, John qualified as a History and ICT teacher in 2002. John has worked in various roles within Irish education system in addition to spending a number of years as a classroom teacher. He has worked in a number of 3rd level institutions lecturing in ICT in education/Educational Technology and worked for a government agency supporting the implementation of ICT in Education at primary and secondary levels. He is a former participant on the Transatlantic Teachers Scholars Programme (2012), the Liberty Today Talented teachers Forum in Monticello VA organised by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation (2013) and American Air Museum Teachers summer residency programme based in the Imperial War Museum Duxford UK (2014). He was the first Google Certified Teacher in Ireland is currently a Community Rep for the Digital Public Library of America.
