Frank McKay brings 19 years of experience in education and youth development to his work as Director of School Services at NC New Schools/Breakthrough Learning. McKay’s experience includes 15 years teaching middle and high school math and science with extensive work in project based learning, service-learning and STEM education. McKay has led teacher training for the U.S. Peace Corps and has served as an instructor and staff trainer for North Carolina Outward Bound. His recognitions include the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Education, the national Bartlett Merit Award and North Carolina Environmental Educator of the Year. McKay currently represents NC New Schools on the executive board of the North Carolina Service-Learning Coalition. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and philosophy from Lenoir-Rhyne University and a master’s degree in ecological teaching and learning from Lesley University.
