Dr. Stephanie Richmond is an assistant professor of history at Norfolk State University. She joined the department in January 2012.  Dr. Richmond’s research specialty is nineteenth century gender and race in the Atlantic world.  She is currently working on a book manuscript on early feminist thought in the antislavery movement in the United States and Britain entitled A Sisterhood against Slavery: Women, Class, and the Atlantic Antislavery Movement.  She is also a member of the 1619: The Making of America project through the Jenkins Center for the Study of the African Diaspora. Dr. Richmond teaches courses on American history, Women’s history, the Civil War, Antebellum America, the craft of history, and African American history.  She also advises the History Club and Phi Alpha Theta.
