Kristen Ziller is a school library media specialist at Durant Road Year-Round Middle School in Raleigh. Her passion is providing opportunities for students to contribute their ideas and carry out their vision to make the library media program their own. She enjoys collaborating with teachers to create inquiry-learning projects, helping students discover information using a variety of quality resources, and matching the right book with the right reader at the right time. She consistently collects and analyzes library media program and student learning data to reflect on her teaching practices and program goals. She has presented on this topic, as well as student use of quality online resources, at the NCTIES, NCSLMA, and National Board of Professional Teaching Standards conferences.
Kristen holds a Bachelor’s in Secondary Mathematics Education from Florida State University and a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida. She earned her National Board Certification in K-12 Library Media in 2009. When she’s not in the library, Kristen enjoys playing the piano and ringing in the handbell choir at her church, riding her bike on the Raleigh Greenway trails, watching college football (go Seminoles!), and spending time with her friends and family.
